M Ataur Rahman Pir was authorized under the Ministry of Defense as 2/Lt in 1984 as an official of BNCC and elevated to the position of Lieutenant Colonel in 2006 and filled in as Battalion Commander up to 2010.

Principal Lt. Colonel (retired) M (Mohammed) Ataur Rahman Pir was born on 8th April, 1950 in a noble Muslim family of Sunamganj to Ayubun Nessa Khatun (late) and Md. Abdul Mannan Pir (late). He is the decendent of Mystic poet and preacher Shah Asod Ali Pir. He is an M. Sc in Chemistry with Honours from the University of Chittagong. Later in 2008 and 2009 he has completed BEd and MEd. PDG Pir started his career as lecturer at Atharabari College, Mymensingh in 1974 and shifted to Gouripur College, Mymensingh in 1975. Later, in 1980 he joined Madan Mohan College, Sylhet as Assistant Professor and was appointed to the post of Principal of that College in 2002 and served till his retirement upto 2010. Now he has been passing his time as the Principal of Sylhet Central College and his spouse is one of the founder of that college.

PDG Pir joined Rotary in 1991 and was the president of RC Jalalabad in 1997-1998 and served RID 3280 and RID 3282 in various positions including first ever Assistant Governor in 1999-2000. He is a graduate from Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI), and adjudged as the Faculty Member of RLI.

M Ataur Rahman Pir was commissioned under the Ministry of Defence as 2/Lt in 1984 as an officer of BNCC and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2006 and served as Battalion Commander upto 2010.

He is the life member of so many organizations including Bangla Academy. Other organizations are:

8. Sunamganj Public Library, Sunamganj.

PDG Pir is the Founder Chairman of:-

1. Shah Asod Ali Pir (R) Foundation, Sunamganj;

2. Metropolitan Law College, Sylhet;

3. Metropolitan Kindergarten, Sylhet and

4. Sylhet Mobile Pathagar.

He is the Founder of Jameya Hafizia Dorgah e Shah Asod Ali Pir, Sunamganj and Omar Farooq Hafizia Madrasa, Sylhet.

PDG Pir is one of the Trustee member of Rotary Hospital, Sylhet. PDG Pir is the Advisor to Moulana Bhasani Foundation, Sylhet; Abdus Samad Azad Foundation, Dhaka. He is also the president of Tamaddun Majlish (the first organization of language movement), Sylhet Divisional Unit.
PDG Pir was adjudged as one of the best Rotary president in 1997-98, best Teacher of Bangladesh in 2002, best Rover Scout Commissioner of Bangladesh in 2006 and VOA মিতালী (Mitali) received awards for social service activities from Muktijoddo Academy Sylhet and Kolkata Global Institute. He was also honoured with Life Time Achievement Awards from BNCC in 2011.

PDG Pir is married to Rtn. Firoza Rahman, past president of Inner Wheel Club of Sylhet, a school teacher and a member of Rotary Club of Jalalabad.
The couple is blessed with two sons and one daughter. Both sons are University Teachers and daughter is a student of BUET, Dhaka. They have two grand sons and two grand daughters.
